Course Categories.
Operator 3a (Mobile Vertical): Scissor lifts and vertical personnel platforms.
Operator 3b (Mobile Boom): Self-propelled booms and articulated "cherry pickers."
Static Boom (1b): Vehicle-mounted platforms and trailers.
MEWPS for Managers: Planning and supervising powered access operations.
Course Syllabus.
Health & Safety Law: Work at Height Regulations 2005 and ISO 18878.
Machine Introduction: Familiarisation with controls, safety devices, and emergency lowering systems.
Pre-Use Inspection: Checking tyres, outriggers, fluid levels, and structural integrity.
Safe Operating Methods: Ground assessment, overhead hazards (crushing/electrocution), and wind speed limits.
Practical Assessment: A rigorous test of manoeuvring, positioning, and extending the platform safely.
Who Should Attend?.
Anyone required to operate a MEWP on site. The PAL Card is valid for 5 years and is mandatory on the majority of UK construction and industrial sites (Build UK approved).
