Role Overview
The Business Development Executive role is responsible for driving sales growth and onboarding new accounts within our Cranes and Lifting division.
The primary focus of this role is on overhead cranes and lifting equipment and service contracts, ensuring customer satisfaction and expanding our customer base through proactive sales efforts and strategic business development, with a firm focus on the development of new business and growth.
This role may require occasional travel to meet with customers, attend industry events or visit project sites.
Key Responsibilities of Role
New Business Development Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand our customer base.
Develop and maintain a pipeline of potential customers and sales leads.
Conduct cold calls, client meetings and presentations to introduce the company’s products and services.
Create and execute territory sales plans in alignment with company goals.
Research competitors' pricing strategies and market trends to ensure that quotes are competitive while maximising profitability.
Customer Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers.
Provide exceptional customer service and ensure customer satisfaction.
Address customer enquiries promptly and professionally.
Communicate with customers to gather project specifications, clarify requirements and address any questions or concerns related to pricing.
Sales Performance and Reporting
Monitor and analyse sales performance metrics and adjust strategies as needed.
Prepare and present sales reports, forecasts and budgets to senior management.
Ensure accurate and timely reporting of sales activities and results.
Preparing quotes, proposals and presentations for potential customers.
Co-ordinate and follow up on sales enquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
Product Knowledge and Promotion
Maintain in-depth knowledge of the company's industrial and safety supplies product range.
Educate customers on product features, benefits and applications.
Collaborate with the marketing team to develop promotional materials and campaigns.
Market Expansion: Participate in trade shows, industry events and networking activities to promote the company’s products.
Stay updated on industry developments and emerging trends to identify new business opportunities.
Day to Day Tasks
Liaising with engineers to understand requirements for each stage of the quotation sheets when information is limited.
Conducting market research to identify potential customers, market trends and competitors alongside analysing data to determine market demand, customer needs and potential growth opportunities.
Staying updated on industry news, regulations and advancements. Prospecting and contacting potential and existing customers.
Following up on leads generated through various channels such as trade shows, referrals and marketing campaigns.
Building and nurturing relationships with new and existing customers through regular communication, meetings and site visits.
Collaborating with the sales team to develop tailored proposals and solutions for customers.
Managing customer expectations in the event of delays.
Creating presentations and conducting product demonstrations to showcase the features, benefits and capabilities of company products.
Negotiating contracts, terms and pricing agreements with customers to secure new business opportunities.
Managing the sales pipeline by tracking leads, opportunities and sales activities using bespoke software, monitoring progress against sales targets and objectives, adjusting strategies as needed to meet or exceed goals.
Forecasting sales projections and preparing regular reports for management review.
Provide ongoing support to customers throughout the sales process and beyond, ensuring a positive customer experience.
Following up with customers post-sale to gather feedback, assess satisfaction levels and identify opportunities for upselling or cross-selling.
Networking with industry peers, attending conferences, and participating in relevant events to expand professional networks and stay abreast of industry trends.
Person Specification
Ideally from a technical sales background relating to engineering or heavy industry.
Results-oriented with a strong drive for success.
Customer-focused with a commitment to delivering high-quality service.
Proactive and self-motivated with excellent problem-solving skills.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a commission based sales role.
Proven track record of achieving sales targets and driving business growth.
Strong ability to identify and develop new business opportunities.
Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
Ability to analyse data and make informed business decisions.
Proficient in using CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Willingness to travel within the designated area as required.
