When RS decided to invest heavily in opening a Trade Counter, it was a make or break decision, now after their first major open day, they are looking forward to what the future holds.
It started from nothing, a derelict 4 acre site just off Haverton Hill Road with no roof, and no hope. But along came Mike Riley and Neil Sanderson, with a vision of what this site could offer.
RS Industrial Services Ltd was set up in 2001 as RS Cranes to carry out overhead crane maintenance/repair and the supply/inspection of lifting equipment. But due to demand from existing customers, they relocated and set up three new divisions of business: Engineering supplies, equipment hire and an accredited training centre. This relocation and development ran well over a million pounds, and Mike could not be happier with how things are going. “we quickly outgrew our old premises in Middlesbrough, so we needed to have room to spare in our new location. The site on Haverton Hill Road was to good an oppurtunity to miss, and we are over the moon with our progress.” So on the 25th september, in order to promote the new divisions and say thankyou to their customers for their continued support throughout the move and development, RSIS hosted a grand open day like nothing the Tees Valley has seen. The event was supported by over 40 major manufacturers such as Bosch, Makita, Dickies, Gedore, Trend, Klingspor, Deb, and many others. A wide range of suppliers brought demo gear along to the event, with massive discounts and exciting prize draws available on the day.
Over 150 new & existing customers were recorded, with 1000’s of pounds worth of gear sold. There were many smiling faces as they were greated at the entrance with sweets, chocolate, and a host of supplier endorsed goodie bags. You would expect so many bags would contain cheap bits and bobs of no real use in the future, but there was a host of great gifts including wooley hats, protective gloves, spirit levels, and clothing to be had. One customer said “Ive had a great day. I never knew there was such a place in the area that did this kind of trade, days like this really help in getting the punters in. Thanks for the free hot roast by the way, it was delicious.” Because the day was so successful, RS are planning on making the occassion an annual event. I caught up with a supplier to hear his thoughts on todays events. “For a companys first open day, it was very impressive, a lot of places who do this sort of thing have around 15 suppliers attending, but they have really gone all out today, and by looking around it looks like all the hard work paid off.”
To promote the event, RS produced publications in the Evening Gazette, and hosted a radio broadcast on North East radio station ‘Todays Favourite Music’ (TFM). An impressive banner now covers the front fence at 12 metres long adcvertising a range of different products we have on offer. Mike, one of the company directors said: ‘we had a hard job to even fit everything onto this banner, putting everything we supplied on there would have been halfway down the A19.” RS Industrial Services would like to thank all of it’s staff and suppliers for the hard work on and leading up to the open day. But it is not over yet, RS Industrial Services is going to continue growing, and reach all those customers who are craving for that one stop shop that RS have worked so hard to be.
Hard work pays off as RSIS takes two Business awards for the Tees Valley region.
Hosted by Hardwick Hall in Sedgefield on May 24th 2007, the Evening Gazette North East Business Awards was a successful day for RS Industrial Services. Taking both the Small Business award, and the Services Award, it showed that the companies dedication to customer service and business expansion is not going unnoticed. With ambitions to expand our business overseas, we look forward to what the future holds.
